The Long Island Aikikai is offering a 6 week Asian Culture Course on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:00pm starting October 9th through November 13th for our kids class. Children who aren’t part of our kids class can also participate ($25 material fee). It’s geared towards kids between the ages of 6 and 13 but exceptions can be made if an adult is present or if a child is older.
In this course, we’ll be doing many traditional activities from different Asian countries while being exposed to the history and cultural significance. Many of these activities are ones that children in eastern cultures grow up with, and giving our students a chance to learn about these backgrounds can help expand their horizons. Running once in the Fall and once in the Spring, each course will rotate activities and games so that the course remains fresh and exciting to students who have already taken it. The activities chosen will supplement the child’s sense of responsibilities, improve hand eye coordination, increase curiosity for other cultures and languages and cuisines, introduce holiday traditions, and help nurture their creativity.
