Special FREE Class: Defense Against Knife Attacks

July 8, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

There are two main options when dealing with someone with an edged weapon; Escape (which is always your best option) or defense. If defending yourself is the only option then a person must do so with the environment in mind and with an understanding of edged weapons so that a suitable defense/technique can be executed.

This class will look at potential real-life scenarios and present viable techniques that can help an individual when escape is not an option.  Specific focus will be made on addressing various knife attacks and how traditional Aikido joint locks, atemi, and submission holds can be used to control tense and dangerous situations. This class will also help develop a person’s awareness and confidence when confronting an edged weapon.

About the instructor:

Christopher began training in martial arts in 1980, studying karate, kung fu and boxing. In 1986 he commenced his training in jiu-jitsu under the instruction of Walsh Sensei (a black belt of Master Bob Malvagno’s) and in 1993 received his black belt in this form. Through his experience as a teacher, Christopher realized that his real training had just begun and that he had only taken his first steps in learning all that martial arts had to offer. He began looking to expand his knowledge and in 1998 began his study of Aikido under Hagihara Sensei. Chris currently holds the rank of 3rd dan and is a certified teacher with the United States Aikido Federation.
