Aikido with Hagihara Shihan

Aikido
Aikido is a traditional Japanese Budo (martial art) that roughly translates to “the way to unify and harmonize with universal energy.” On a very basic level, Aikido is a highly effective form of self-defense that teaches you how to protect yourself without the use of violent kicking or punching.

Children’s Aikido Program
Aikido is a great martial art for children to practice.  Aikido is the only martial art in which the teachings and the techniques focus on harmonious resolutions to violence. Aikido is not fighting; the Long Island Aikikai’s children’s program will help your child resolve conflict, not initiate it.

Women’s Self-Defense
In the spring of 2010, the Long Island Aikikai started to offer martial arts programs tailored to the specific needs of women.  These highly focused Aikido classes cover practical self-defense techniques as well as the traditional movements leaned in our regular martial arts classes.

Iaido
Aikido and the sword are very much connected in their history. To complement your Aikido training, The Long Island Aikikai offers classes in  Musō Jikiden Eishin-ryū Iaido.
