If you wish to begin practicing Aikido or to continue your study of the art, then you have come to the right place. The Long Island Aikikai is the premier Aikido Dojo on Long Island and one of the oldest in the country, with over 45 years of history. At the LI Aikikai, students have the extraordinary opportunity to study directly under one of Aikido’s pioneers; Hagihara Sensei, 7th Dan, Shihan (please see our instructors page for further information).

The best way to start your Aikido training is to visit the Dojo observe one of our classes. This will give you a direct view as to why so many have come through our doors to study this unique martial art, so please take a look at our training schedule and come out to watch a general class.  You are also welcome to step onto the mat and try a free training session (just wear comfortable workout clothing that covers your elbows and knees). To join LI Akikai, simply fill out our application form and pay the associated fees to become a member with full benefits, able to practice on a daily basis.

LI Aikikai offers a variety of training every day of the week, with morning, afternoon and evening classes to choose from.  Our classes are open to men, women and children of all skill levels and physical types. As with most traditional Dojos, we have no beginner classes.  Instead, an experienced student will be assigned to work with you during your first few training sessions in order to help you get acquainted with the basics of Aikido and conduct in the Dojo.  If you have special health needs or concerns, please let the teacher and your practice partner know before you begin practicing.
