Reading today’s headline news, many women feel they are at higher risk of becoming a victim of an attack and would like to learn a martial art for self-defense. While not everyone feels they have the time to dedicate to long-term training, self-defense instruction can provide necessary knowledge that could potentially save a woman’s life.
Long Island Aikikai is pleased to offer a special three-hour intensive seminar in women’s self-defense, lead by top Aikido instructor Edward Hagihara, 7th degree black belt.
Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art and a highly effective form of self-defense that is ideally suited to women, as it emphasizes attack neutralization by a lighter defender using a low center of gravity. Aikido does not rely on brute strength, but rather uses leverage and dynamic circular movements to redirect an attack.
Seminar topics will include the evasion and neutralization of a variety of real-world attacks, including strikes, punches, wrist grabs and choke holds. Countering weapons and other object assaults will also be covered.
